What to Expect — Wellington Veterinary Services
During your appointment

A calm, friendly visit from start to finish

From the moment you arrive to the moment you head home, here’s how a typical appointment flows.

1

Arrive & check in

One of our client care specialists greets you at reception and confirms your details.

2

Settle into an exam room

As soon as a room is ready, a team member brings you in and talks through your pet’s history and how they’ve been doing.

3

Meet your veterinarian

Your vet examines your pet, provides any needed treatments, and takes the time to explain what’s going on in plain language.

4

Wrap up with a technician

If needed, your technician may also answer routine wellness and care questions, and send you home with clear, helpful guidance.

5

Billing & follow-up

We handle billing and book any follow-up appointments or diagnostics, so nothing falls through the cracks. We can’t wait to meet your whole family!

Questions clients ask us

We’d always rather have the conversation than leave you guessing. Here are a few of the questions we hear most.

Are you a corporation?

We’re part of a larger group called VetCare, but we’re probably not what comes to mind when you hear “corporate.” We’re Canadian-owned, based in Vancouver, and founded by Andrew Black, who’s from Ottawa.

  • He started VetCare after his own family dog saw multiple vets before anyone could figure out what was wrong.
  • His idea: vets who share knowledge and resources can help pets better than diagnosing alone.
  • VetCare grows by partnering with established local clinics — like Wellington — and helping them keep doing what they already do well.
  • We keep our name, our team, and our way of doing things.

What being part of a larger group adds is behind-the-scenes: shared resources, investment in equipment and facilities, training, and support on the business side — so our veterinarians and team can spend their time on your pet instead of paperwork. So yes, we’re part of something bigger, but that’s exactly what lets us hold onto good people and practice the most modern medicine.

Who makes the medical decisions?

Medical decisions are made by a senior veterinarian who works directly within the clinic — in our case, Dr. Melissa Cirinna! She’s responsible for maintaining medical standards, supporting the veterinary team, and making sure patients receive the best possible care.

Every call comes down to the professional judgment of our veterinarians and what each individual patient needs.

Who makes the administrative decisions?

Administrative and operational decisions are made together by our Practice Manager, Ashley, and Dr. Cirinna. Working side by side keeps the business and medical sides of the clinic on the same page.

  • Keeps our doors open and our team supported.
  • Keeps exceptional patient care and client service front and centre.
  • And your pets stay our number one priority — always.
I’ve heard corporate vet groups only care about profits.

It’s a fair thing to ask — but our team is made up of pet parents and animal lovers. We are a business, but we’re here because we care.

  • What our veterinarians and technicians recommend is based on what your pet needs.
  • You’ll always get an estimate first — nothing beyond a basic exam happens until you’ve said yes.
  • No surprise bills, and no tests you didn’t agree to.
  • Our prices reflect the real cost of a well-equipped hospital with skilled people and modern medicine — not a number handed down from head office.

If you’re ever unsure why something’s recommended or what it’ll cost, please ask us. We’d much rather have that conversation than leave you guessing.
